Technologies and materials of the coin and order production
The Coin and Order Department of the Research Institute works upon perfecting materials and technological processes applied in the coin and order production.
On the eve of the Olympic Games of 1980 held in Moscow the specialists of the Research Institute developed and patented technologies of production of gold, silver and platinum products of “proof” quality.
In the 1980s two monographs “Gold” and “Silver” were published (authors V.M. Malyshev, D.V. Rumiantsev).
Developments of the reserve coin systems and new materials for the coin production are carried out regularly at the Institute. A special bimetal has been developed and patented for the purpose.
An enamel with security properties has been developed and patented to be applied in the minted product design.
The technology of high-speed galvanic gold plating without the application of potassium cyanide has been developed. It is proven by tests that the developed technology may be applied for product local gilding as well as products with stoving enamels without harm to the enamel quality.
The developed technology provides an opportunity to obtain high-quality galvanic gold coat 50 or more microns in thickness.
In 2010 the specialists of the Research Institute developed a technology of production of bimetal coin products with an outer ring of coloured titanium. The technology of titanium chemical colouring permits to obtain practically any colour of the ring.
